Memories of the 50s....................from L.J. Cooper

Some of my memories of PHS days include Carlson's and Hazel Hicks...who passed away recently....

Hazel and Rosie were two of the influences on my upbringing.  They would bring me and a buddy one of the Carlson's fabulous chicken fried steaks (88 cents, with French fries & gravy) on two platters, because it was too large for one human being, until Mr. Carlson noticed and decreed 2 plates = 2 prices.

Hazel and Rosie could usually be talked (on a good night) into selling a cold beer to us 17 year old almost-hoods (probably because they could see that we weren't a major threat to society).

There must be a treasure trove of memories that we need to record.  Let's work on it.

Years ago I worked for Zanas Thorne-Hines (56) and we found we were both Paschal exes.  When I asked her where she went to high school, she said "You ain't nobody if you didn't go to Paschal."

Anybody else have some fond memories of those bygone years? If so, mail them to me above

50"s Thoughts:

Carlson's played a big social role for many Paschal graduates.  One of my recollections was about an open pasture just behind and to the north of Carlson's.  Someone was keeping a pony in the pasture.  That pony, which we named "Wild Child", became a temptation and a challenge.  More than several of us got pretty dirty after being bucked off that poor little horse.  Perhaps that group of guys was the genesis of the Paschal Posse.

(No Way.  The Posse were the good guys)
